The GMS High Performance Sculling Training Group is a three-tiered program for senior athletes to compete at the international level.

 

The athletes will commit to:

  • 12-14 training sessions per week (800-1200 minutes/week)
  • 120km rowing per week, average
  • 60,000 repetitions of weight training per year
  • Three 2k and 6k tests per year
  • Logging workouts and communicating training data
  • Racing at the first National Selection Regatta

 

After committing to the HPS Training Group, athletes will be provided

 

  • Personal Training Plan (PTP)
  • Team boats and oars, rack space
  • Weekly coaching sessions
  • Funding as described below

 

A: INTERNATIONAL RACING SQUAD 6- 8 athletes

For this group, the racing season will culminate in the World Championships. Athletes are expected to place in the top 6 at NSR1or NSR2.

Racing and training opportunities will focus on preparing athletes for international racing success.

 

Athlete requirements:

Beyond full commitment to the program, certain standards on the water and indoors must be met.

B: DOMESTIC RACING SQUAD 6- 8 athletes

For this group, the season will culminate at Elite Nationals. Athletes are expected to place in the top 12 at NSR1.

Racing and training opportunities will focus on improving results at US Rowing regattas, including selection regattas and speed orders.

For this group, the racing season will culminate in either the Canadian Henley Regatta or Club Nationals. Racing and training opportunities will focus on improving fitness/strength and gaining confidence in small boats.
